AIDS patients fooled by herbal powders

New Delhi: Selling herbal powders and medicines with the promise that they provide a cure for AIDS, the quacks were deceiving patients, said Deputy Director, Dr Alagiri in Salem Tamil Nadu on Tuesday.
Speaking at the district dissemination meeting, he pointed out that AIDS was a curable disease and the death rate has reduced over a period of time.
District Revenue Officer, C Rajararatinam who presided the meeting said that an international NGO, Saathi had taken steps to prevent the spread of AIDS.
It would train 1,000 government doctors and paramedical staff in all hospitals and Primary Health Centres in seven months.
Saathi was serving as a technical advisor and imparting training to NGOs on documentation, gender sexuality sensitisation, strategic development, he said.
Saathi's international President Dr Sai Subasree Raghavan said the US Aids programme was being implemented in 10 states, including Tamil Nadu at a cost of Rs 30 crore.
In Tamil Nadu, the programme is operational in 13 districts.
