BSP truck a sellout: Rahul

NEW DELHI, March 19: Attacking the Congress establishment during late Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao’s tenure, Mr Rahul Gandhi today claimed that the Babri Masjid would not have been demolished if the Nehru-Gandhi family had been active in politics at that time. He also dubbed the Congress’ alliance with the BSP in Uttar Pradesh in 1996 as a “sell out”. “Had the Gandhi family been there in politics (in 1992), Babri Masjid demolition would not have taken place,” Mr Gandhi told reporters on the second day of his election campaign and political road show in UP.
No member of the Gandhi family was active in public life at the time of the Babri demolition at Ayodhya on 6 December 1992 at the hands of alleged Sangh Parivar activists. “My father said to my mother that he would stand in front of Babri Masjid if it will do any good. They would have to kill him first,” Rahul recalled Rajiv Gandhi’s comments to Mrs Sonia Gandhi without specifying the date. Rajiv was killed in 1991 before Narasimha Rao took over as the PM. "
