FB cracks LF whip on land

Statesman News Service
KOLKATA, March 20: The Forward Bloc won’t allow a single acre of land, either for SEZs or for non-SEZs, to be acquired before a discussion in the Left Front.
The FB spelt out its stand on farmland acquisition 24 hours after the state administration issued a notice at Nandigram that no land there would be acquired for the chemical hub project.
The police action at Nandigram allegedly in collusion with armed CPI-M goons, the FB said, had shaken the poor people’s belief in Left politics.
The Nandigram fiasco has revealed that the Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee government tried to hijack the Left Front or “the tail tried to wag the dog”.
The FB criticised the “deviation” of the Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee government, saying that it didn’t act as “a government of the people” while handling the Nandigram imbroglio.
Mr Debabrata Biswas, FB general secretary, said the carnage at Nandigram had done incalculable harm to the Left movement as an alternative model of struggle for the poor and the downtrodden.
The FB also dismissed CPI-M general secretary, Mr Prakash Karat’s suggestion that a judicial inquiry be instituted to unearth what exactly had happened at Nandigram. Mr Biswas said such a suggestion was redundant, since the CBI had already been instructed by the court to hold an inquiry.
